We are seeking qualified Freelance Chuukese–English Over-the-Phone (OPI) Interpreters to join our growing network of independent contractors. This opportunity is ideal for bilingual professionals who are passionate about helping people communicate effectively while enjoying the flexibility of remote work.
Our clients include healthcare organizations, hospitals, physician practices, insurance companies, government agencies, legal firms, educational institutions, financial organizations, call centers, and commercial businesses requiring high-quality language access services.
We are seeking a results-driven Business Development Manager to lead national sales efforts and expand our language interpretation business. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced sales professional who enjoys building relationships, generating new business, and helping organizations improve communication with Limited English Proficient (LEP) populations.
Position Summary
As a Freelance Chuukese–English Over-the-Phone Interpreter, you will facilitate accurate communication between Chuukese-speaking and English-speaking individuals. You will interpret conversations in real time while maintaining neutrality, professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
Assignments are provided on an on-demand basis and may include healthcare, legal, government, insurance, education, customer service, and other professional settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Accept and manage on-demand interpretation assignments.
- Provide accurate consecutive interpretation between Chuukese and English.
- Preserve the speaker’s intended meaning without additions or omissions.
- Maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and professional ethics at all times.
- Handle sensitive conversations with professionalism and cultural competence.
- Use appropriate terminology across healthcare, legal, government, insurance, and customer service environments.
- Maintain a quiet, distraction-free workspace with reliable internet connectivity.
- Complete required onboarding, training, and quality assurance activities.
Qualifications
Required
- Advanced or native fluency in spoken Chuukese and English.
- Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.
- Strong memory retention and note-taking abilities.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism.
- Successfully complete language proficiency and interpreter assessments.
- Reliable computer, high-speed internet, and professional USB headset.
- Dedicated home office or quiet work environment.
Preferred
- Previous experience as an Over-the-Phone Interpreter (OPI), Video Remote Interpreter (VRI), or onsite interpreter.
- Experience interpreting in healthcare, legal, government, insurance, education, or social services.
- Interpreter certification is an asset but not required.
