We are seeking qualified Freelance Marshallese–English Over-the-Phone (OPI) Interpreters to join our growing network of independent contractors. This is an excellent opportunity for self-motivated bilingual professionals seeking flexible remote work while helping individuals overcome language barriers.
Key Responsibilities
Position Summary
As a Freelance Marshallese–English Over-the-Phone Interpreter, you will provide accurate, real-time interpretation between Marshallese-speaking and English-speaking individuals. You will ensure effective communication while maintaining neutrality, confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.
Assignments are provided on an on-demand basis and may involve healthcare providers, legal professionals, government agencies, insurance companies, educational institutions, and customer service organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Accept and manage on-demand interpretation assignments.
- Provide accurate consecutive interpretation between Marshallese and English.
- Interpret conversations without adding, omitting, or changing the intended meaning.
- Maintain confidentiality and impartiality during every interaction.
- Demonstrate professionalism when handling sensitive or confidential conversations.
- Apply appropriate terminology across healthcare, legal, government, insurance, and customer service settings.
- Maintain a quiet, professional remote work environment with reliable internet access.
- Complete required onboarding, training, and quality assurance activities
Qualifications Required
- Advanced or native fluency in spoken Marshallese and English.
- Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong memory retention and note-taking abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Successfully complete language proficiency and interpreter assessments.
- Reliable computer, high-speed internet connection, and professional USB headset.
- Quiet home office or dedicated workspace.
Preferred
- Previous experience as an Over-the-Phone Interpreter (OPI), Video Remote Interpreter (VRI), or onsite interpreter.
- Experience interpreting in healthcare, legal, government, insurance, education, or social services.
- Interpreter certification is preferred but not required.
